Mark Steven Soroka

Mark Steven Soroka, Partner of TAUBMAN KIMELMAN & SOROKA, LLP., has been practicing law for almost thirty years. His areas of practice include labor, collective bargaining negotiations, pension and trust funds, disciplinary hearings, contractual arbitrations, divorce, real estate purchases and sales, individual bankruptcy and wills, trusts and estates. He currently handles the firm's General Practice Division.

Mr. Soroka, who has handled over 1,000 contractual arbitrations, has a success rate of better than 80%. He has gotten hundreds of employees their jobs back, with most getting substantial back pay awards. Over his career Mr. Soroka has counseled some seventeen different labor organizations, their members and their trust funds including Local 211 and Local 30, I.U.O.E., Local 444 and Local 246, S.E.I.U., Local 237, I.B.T., Local 806 and Local 1969, I.B.P.A.T., Correction Officers, Correction Captains and Assistant Deputy Wardens Association, Sergeants Benevolent Association and Housing Superior Officers Association. Mr. Soroka has also been involved in major labor and civil service law litigation and even made new law in the New York State Court of Appeals case of Civil Service Bar Association, Local 237, I.B.T. vs. City of New York and Katz and Blucher, which broadened a labor union's ability to favorably settle arbitrations for their bargaining unit members.

In the area of general practice, Mr. Soroka has led the movement toward creating and establishing legal service plans for union members and their families, some 20,000 in number. In representing union members, their families and other clients of this firm, Mr. Soroka has personally handled thousands of real estate closings, drafted thousands of wills and trusts, handled hundreds of bankruptcy filings and has successfully litigated hundreds of divorces thereby developing expertise in all these areas of the law.
